Improving physical therapy with 3d printing

Posted by Unknown Selasa, 28 Januari 2014 0 komentar

Developed by Dr. Kee Moon and Jeremiah Cox, the device seeks to better conform to the way the body moved before an accident or injury occurred. Rather than rigidly control the movements of the leg, their device nudges - or kicks - the leg to begin natural physical motion. In the future, the bionic leg will further tie in with the brain to better adapt to former muscle memory, allowing the patient to better achieve their previous and unique way of walking or moving.

Solid Concepts selling metal 3d printed guns for 11900 USD per piece

Remeber the first fully operational metal pistol 3d printed by Solid Concepts?

http://diy3dprinting.blogspot.com/2013/11/worlds-first-3d-printed-metal-gun.html

Now they are selling 100 pieces from limited series for 11900 USD each!
From the source article:
"Solid Concepts, which last month revealed the first fully-functional, metal 3D gun, announced today that they're putting 100 limited-edition models of the 1911 .45 caliber pistol on sale for $11,900 each. Solid Concept demonstrated the gun by initially firing 50 rounds through it. Since then, the company said it has fired nearly 2,000 rounds through the pistol without a single malfunction. Unlike the very first 3D printed gun — the single-shot, plastic Liberator — Solid Concepts says is not trying to promote the right to bear arms under the Second Amendment. Its purpose in printing the firearm was to demonstrate its ability to turn out precision, durable parts that could withstand the massive pressure created by firing a bullet. People who purchase one of the limited-edition guns will also have the chance to tour Solid Concept's Texas facility to see their gun being printed, and to join their lead additive manufacturing engineers on the range for the first test firing of their limited 1911 gun."

Video of new 3d printed cruiser skateboard

From video description:
Tas Oszkay, Mo Harmon, and Jac Currie are graduate students at UCLA's school of Architecture and Urban Design who re-imagined skateboard product design using (http://www.solidconcepts.com/3d-print...) Solid Concepts' 3D Printing to manufacture an incredible board in one unit. Their board is an involved aesthetic dialogue between form and function. The design reveals heavy influences from the team's organic inspiration, Radiolaria. From a machining perspective, the complex mineral shell of radiolarians is nothing short of a nightmare. The patterns of the organism from under a microscope weave into each other, looking roughly similar to a dried up piece of sea reef. The team took the basic design of the silica skeletons unique to radiolarians and further complicated it through layering using CAD software.
Their board is self identified as a cruiser, meant for gracing the beach front or getting about campus. They think in the future they might look into trick boards; 3d Printing is a technology capable of being extremely light, and that would factor well into such a venture. But for now, they're experimenting with the more relaxed board.
Here is the post about first 3d printed skateboard project:
