Improv is very powerful and affordable electronics board that could replace Raspberry Pi in 3d printers and provide much more processing strength. connectivity and control options.  I have not found any 3d printer projects with it. If you know any, let me know.

Open, Modular Design
The Improv is a modular engineering kit that comes with a CPU card and a separate feature card to connect it to. The CPU card powers the device while the feature card provides convenient access to the on-board capabilities of the CPU card through a variety of ports and pins on it.
This unique design allows one to have multiple CPU cards for different projects, upgrade the kit by ordering new CPU cards for additional features or feature cards for different sets of ports and off-board components.
Improv comes pre-installed with the Linux-based Mer operating system. Making a DIY smart TV with Raspberry Pi and some 3d printing

Nice project. Take a TV, open it, stick Raspberry Pi running Raspbmc into it with some 3d printed brackets and you have your own DIY smart TV. It's not simple as that, but you get the picture :-)




























"Carnivore" tapped the TVs logic board USB ports for power and connected RPi's outputs to TV's input ports which resulted in TV running a Raspberry Pi media center. Superior software on simple cheap LCD TV.

DIY 3d printable Google Glass alternative by Codeninja

Wearable technology is growing trend. Codeninja made his version of Google Glass technology with help of 3d printing and modified Raspberry Pi. It has retractable and motorized eye piece display, invisible camera inside display box and various sensors, like 3-axis IMU and some environmental sensors.
Not many technical details are available, I REALLY hope that the plans and files will be made available. Please Codeninja! He notes that he is working on making it even smaller.

BTW: it has a cool BORG-ish look doesn't it? I like it. I would even wear it to town.

PetBot - open source 3d printable remote pet interaction and treat dispenser

As a dog owner (of very very naughty dog) I see the full benefit of this project. I'll build it when it is available (I'v searched around but found no files or instructions). Theoretically it is easy to DIY a simillar project, but I'll wait little bit more ...
Actually, my dog has some similarities to Atos, the lead dog tester.

Large volume DIY 3d scanner based on 39 Raspberry Pi and Raspberry cameras

Clustered Raspberry Pies and Raspberry camera modules form this large volume full person DIY 3d scanner. They scanned hundreds of people on various events!
The setup uses 39 Raspberry Pi + camera units. They all listen to a network broadcast to fully synchronized take 39 photos. The photos are then uploaded to a local SAN for further processing.
The 3d modeling is done using the free cloud service from Autodesk called Recap (recap.autodesk.com).
There is extensive documentation available so you can build this powerful 3d scanner yourself.

"Jack the Ripper" 3d printable optical media ripping automation robot will help you move tons of DVDs or CDs trough the optical drive.

Aims were:
  • Modular software and hardware design
  • Open source
  • Reliable
  • Low cost
  • Using off-the-shelf electronics
A stack of discs are placed into the “in tray”. An arm moves over to the stack and grabs the top disc. The disc is then lowered into the drive tray. Ripping takes place. Once complete the disc is removed from the drive tray and the arm takes it over to the “out tray” and places it there.
A Raspberry Pi is used to control the robot and a PC is used to control the overall process and the ripping.
